Odonimee gets Butler off the mark
Lar Butler saddled his first winner 'on the track' when Odonimee proved a tough nut in front to land the Thomastown Handicap Hurdle at Gowran Park.
It was also a poignant winner for jockey Tom Treacy, as his uncle Larry Cullen was a member of the winning All But Two Syndicate until his death a few months ago.
Treacy bounced his mount out in front but he was joined at the third last by Korean
He got the better of that rival at the penultimate flight but had his work cut out from the last as Fool's Wildcat threw down a strong challenge.
That rival pushed him hard on the run to the line and only a short-head seperated the pair as they flashed past the post.
Butler, who trains near the course in Borris, has held his licence for 18 months and has 11 in training, most notably the family owned Trafford Lad.
"He'll probably run in another handicap at Limerick over Christmas," he reported afterwards.
"There are 13 or 14 in the syndicate and they are from New Ross in Wexford. They've been seven years without a winner."
