Paul Nolan has his team in good form at present and the Enniscorthy trainer had some good fortune on his side as Rooster Byron took the Slievenamon Beginners Chase at Clonmel.
The Oscar gelding was well-backed on track from 4/1 into 11/4 and was challenging but still about half-a-length down when leader Veneziano Springs fell at the last.
This left Kevin Sexton’s mount with a clear advantage and he kept on well on the run-in to beat Fintara by 13 lengths. Glenabo Bridge was a further ten lengths behind in third in an incident-packed race, with Rudy Catrail also falling while leading at the last with a circuit to go and hampering a number of runners.
Nolan was saddling his fourth winner in the past 12 days, and has also had a number of significant placed horses with Discorama second in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival and Fitzhenry also filling the same spot in a valuable handicap at Navan.
