Nina Carberry, who married Ted Walsh Jnr last Tuesday, was left with no option but to consign her bridesmaid and sister-in-law Katie Walsh to the runner-up spot (again!) at Fairyhouse today, winning the concluding Follow Fairyhouse Racecourse On Twitter Mares Bumper on Kates Benefit
Carberry made virtually all on Kates Benefit and while Emily O and Katie Walsh gave chase in the straight, the winner stayed on well for a comfortable win.
Afterwards winning trainer Ken Budds said “Kates Benefit did it well again and we’ll probably put her away now.
“I was going to go hurdling but most of the good mares’ hurdles are gone now and if she did win one, she would have to go handicapping next year and wouldn’t have the experience for that.
“Next year, we’ll try to win a maiden hurdle and look at a few of the novices with her. Groundwise she goes on anything except fast - it was tacky today and the rest of them didn’t handle it as well as her. She is something to look forward to next season.”
