Neighbourly and Bryan Cooper provided a 16/1 shock when powering clear of her rivals in the two mile three furlong handicap hurdle at Kilbeggan.
She beat fellow outsider Tom’s Last Euro (25/1) by nine and a half lengths with Key Account in third at 7/2.
Tom’s Last Euro set out to make all under Robbie Colgan but he was passed coming into the home straight before three out by the winner. From then on it was only a matter of how far Neighbourly would win for trainer Paul Magnier.
Some shrewd punters backed Neighbourly at 20/1 and 18/1 at the track. Khan Tengri was the well-backed 2/1 favourite from 7/2 in the morning, but he came in fifth, beaten 32 and a half lengths.
Paul Magnier said: “I was very confident. She was fit and well and if she didn’t win today she would never win.
“Our horses have been out of sorts and we’ve had very few runners. She’ll run again in Downpatrick on Monday.”
