Hurricane Fly’s colours were carried to success at Fairyhouse today as George Creighton’s French import Asthuria landed the Fairyhouse Membership 2017 Mares Maiden Hurdle on her second start for trainer Willie Mullins.
Asthuria, Grade 1 placed on her Irish debut last March, led from the fifth hurdle today, under jockey Ruby Walsh and in the end shook off only real challenger She’s Otto in the home straight for an impressive six lengths win, with 27 lengths and more back to the remainder.
Afterwards Mullins stated “she jumped very well and stayed.
“There is a mares’ novice race coming up at Thurles that we could look at, and she’s a mare that could jump fences in time. I wouldn’t mind bringing her back to two miles.”
