The Niall Moran trained Grey Mountain Mist made all to win the Casey Concrete Gorey Handicap Hurdle, providing his rider Pat Corbett with his first win since returning from injury.
The five pound claimer broke his leg at Cork in early April and returned to the saddle during the summer.
Having shown little on seven starts before today the victorious grey son of Morozov was sent off an unconsidered 33/1 chance in the colours of the Sliabh Bawn Racing Syndicate.
Fitted with a tongue strap for the first time he was sent straight to the front.
He came under pressure on the approach to two out but found plenty for pressure and kept on well when challenged, going on to score by a length and three parts. Sister Annie who was sent off the 4/1 favourite, came with her effort from the second last but she couldn't get by the winner and had to settle for second under Sean Flanagan for John Cullen. Queen Matilda (12/1) completed the placings a further length and a half back in third under Robbie Colgan for Donal Kinsella.
Pat Corbett said afterwards: "It is great to get that win out of the way.
"The plan was to make all and to make as much use of him as I could. He jumped well overall but he did miss one or two. He was good other than that and was game to the line."
