Mhi gets nod in thriller
An Mhi judged edged the verdict after a thrilling final furlong duel with Kenton Street in the Supervalu's Handicap at Roscommon.
The gambled-on Rock Of Hope (20/1 in morning into 7/1 on course) won the early battle for the lead in the seven-furlong contest.
He was mastered by Kenton Street over a furlong from home and the new leader was followed through by An Mhi.
The pair locked horns in the closing stages and Leigh Roche just got his mount's head in front to shade the verdict at the line by a head.
Joanna Morgan, trainer of the winner, said: "He's a grand horse.
"He favours left handed tracks a bit but they have two long straights here so it's not too bad for him. He likes a galloping track.
"He's very genuine and consistent. I have him entered again at Tipperary on Saturday."
The winner is owned by Morgan's mother Margaret and her neighbour Patricia Cunningham.
