The second split of the @Tipperaryraces Apprentice Handicap went to Jim Bolger’s Bosca Cheoil in the hands of Luke McAteer.
The daughter of Dawn Approach had shown little in four previous outings but, nonetheless, attracted some market support this morning (40s into 14/1) before being returned at 18/1.
Having sat a close second to the front-running Chummie the winner was pushed along three furlongs out and soon challenged. After hitting the front over a furlong out, she stayed on well to account for Clew Bay by a length and a quarter, providing McAteer with his tenth winner of the season.
It was a 113/1 for Bolger after Geometrical rsquo;s earlier win, and the trainer’s daughter Una Manning commented: “We’re delighted with her. She has a lovely pedigree and is the family of Smart Strike, a nice Canadian family.
"I’d say the boss will keep her now as a broodmare with that bracket.
“Luke gave her a good ride and it’s nice for him to get another winner.”
