Martin doesn't pick up in time under Carberry
Martin Scruff (4/6 this morning into 1/2) was given an over confident ride by Paul Carberry in the Hen Party Heaven at the Festival Handicap Hurdle and failed to pick up the Andrew McNamara-ridden Turnonthegas at Punchestown.
Winning trainer John Carr also saddled the third home here, Dunroe Boy Martin Scruff was delivered with typical patience by Carberry and gallop all the way to the line as he did, when eventually asked for maximum effort, he couldn't reel in Turnonthegas, going down by a length.
Carr trains Turonthegas for P J Lohan and he said of his charge, equipped with cheek-pieces for the first time here: "That was his third handicap and we thought he'd win one some day, when exactly we didn't know. He ran a nice race at Navan last time (6th there) and the boys backed him each-way today."
Paul Carberry was subjected to the ire of some disgruntled punters when unsaddling.
The stewards severely cautioned the rider for his 'error of judgement'.
