Majestic Jasmine brought up her hat-trick when getting up late to deprive Tropical Mist at Leopardstown in the mile and one fillies’ handicap.
Declan McDonogh got a good tune out of the three-year-old filly as she collared her rival and showed a good attitude to forge on for a half length decision.
John Oxx trains the daughter of New Approach and he quipped: “I think they have built this winner’s enclosure since I last had a winner!” Though he did concede that he could now be on the hotlist after Kerisa obliged in last night’s Connacht Oaks at Sligo as well.
“She’s done well in the rated races. They suited her. Though she had gone up a lot from 73 to 89,” John Oxx explained.
“I’ll see if I can find a similar race again for her. She puts her head down and is willing. The cheekpieces sharpened her up.
“This is her distance. Nine furlongs is perfect. She barely gets a mile and a quarter and doesn’t stay a mile and a half.”
Tropical Mist was returned at 14/1 in second with Jazz Girl another 14/1 shot, coming in third, another length behind.
The 2/1 favourite Mona Brown disappointed in last place. She lost a few lengths at the start when the field broke from the stalls, but didn’t make it onto the back of the bunch at all during the race. She had been backed down from 4/1 this morning. Kevin Manning reported that she missed the break and moved poorly throughout.
There was quite a plunge on Typhoon Lily from 20/1 this morning to an SP of 7/1, but the money was left in the bookmakers’ satchels as she finished fifth under Fergal Lynch.
