Impervious made it two wins from two runs at Listowel today as the Colm Murphy trained mare defeated five more experienced rivals to win the Allman Contracts Novice Hurdle, for jockey Mike O'Connor.
The daughter of Shantou made a winning debut, at 20/1, over hurdles at Cork in August and today got the better of 127-rated runner-up Ballywilliam Boy to score by half a length.
Murphy, recording a third winner this season, was impressed by the performance and later said “I'm delighted with the way she won, considering she was keen enough the whole way and she won probably because she is a very nice filly.
“She won well the first day, she improved and I think she'll improve plenty off that as well. She is one to look forward to.
“She has a fair pedigree and longterm is one for the broodmare band. I'll sit down with Paul (McKeon, owner) and we'll make a plan but the Grade 3 mares novice hurdle at Down Royal in November is a possible target.
“I've been a long time waiting for a nice filly like her.”
