Hurl toughs it out in novice
The Hurl produced a gutsy front-running performance to fend off Tharawaat in the PJ Foley Memorial Novice Chase at Gowran Park.
Niall Madden had his mount to the fore throughout, in the two-and-a-half miles contest, with Quadrillon for company.
Tharawaat moved through to throw down his challenge before the straight and locked horns with The Hurl down the straight.
Mouse Morris' charge just found a bit extra, when required, on the run-in to edge ahead and record a two-length victory.
The winner was bouncing back from a fall at Limerick last time and was taking his record to two wins from two completed starts.
"He was probably just minding himself after the fall last time and got in close to a couple," said Madden afterwards. "He battled well though and is tough."
