Heartbreak in Germany for Famous Name
Famous Name failed to break his Group One duck as Durban Thunder won the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis - Bayerisches Zuchtrennen in Munich today.
Dermot Weld's charge was under pressure a long way from the winning line, but couldn't reel in the winner, who was committed for home a long way out.
Despite having claimed 13 triumphs in Listed and Group Three races, a top-level success continues to elude Dermot Weld's six-year-old entire.
On paper, at least, Pat Smullen's mount appeared to have been unearthed a fine opportunity in which to strike that unwanted statistic from the record.
But it was not to be as, despite arriving with a characteristic late charge, Famous Name could not claw back the front-running Durban Thunder.
Torsten Mundry's five-year-old was recording his first victory of the season, and a first Group One win in his first ever attempt.
