Hay Point completed a quick double for her trainer John Oxx and rider Johnny Murtagh as she took the last at Fairyhouse this evening, the Wednesday Evening Racing at Fairyhouse Maiden over 1m 4f.
Having opened the 7/4 favourite with Paddy Powers this morning she drifted and opened on course at 7/2. However she was well supported on course and went off at 5/2.
All the money came for the Aidan O'Brien trained Warwick Avenue who opened at 10/3 with Paddy Powers this morning, opening on track at 7/4 and being sent off the 13/8 favourite.
With two furlongs left to race Warwick Avenue travelled best under Joseph O’Brien with Hay Point in second.
Inside the final furlong Hay Point came up the inside with her challenge and was bumped by Warwick Avenue who drifted into her.
Despite that bump Hay Point found more close and went on to score by two lengths from her market rival in second. Dante Inferno for Kevin Prendergast and Declan McDonogh finished a further three and a half lengths back in third at 8/1.
Jim 'Slim' O'Neill, assistant to winning trainer John Oxx, said afterwards: "She has come on a bit from the Curragh. She was very green there.
"She handled the ground very well tonight. She is a filly that will probably get a mile and six.
"She did well to win as she got whacked on the side. We will see what mark the handicapper gives her now.”
