- Harney records Thurles double in Stewards' Room
Harney records Thurles double in Stewards' Room
Bill Harney's luck changed very much for the better at Thurles today, as the local trainer registered a double, the second of which, a dead-heater, gained an outright win in the Stewards' Room.
Successful half an hour earlier with Prairie Call Harney's Kakagh under John Cullen, completed the double when taking the dramatic Littleton Maiden Hurdle, which eventually saw Kakagh and Colleoni pass the post together.
Karagh was pressing leader Colleoni from the second last flight but was carried across the track from before the final hurdle.
Cullen, on Kakagh, lost an iron at that obstacle and was carried to the stands' rail on the run-in, and although the Stewards' Enquiry took some time, the general consensus was that Stewards arrived at the correct decision to award Kakagh the race.
Kakagh's win proved a further boost to trainer Bill Harney who had fractured his elbow last Saturday as his daughter Rachel Harney earlier reported; “dad fell on ice last Saturday and only had it operated last night in Tullamore hospital. This will cheer him up even further!
