The Kevin Prendergast trained Stella Street sprang a 20/1 surprise to win on debut at Fairyhouse today, landing the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden under stable jockey Wayne Lordan.
The winner, who holds an entry in the Group 1 Pheonix Stakes later in the year, quickened up nicely in the closing stages for a late neck win over 15/8f Jack Naylor
Afterwards Hayes stated “she's a nice filly and was doing things nicely at home. We have a nice bunch of two year olds and we'd a fair idea what we had coming here.
“I thought greeness would be the only thing that would beat her and she did run very green. When she got organised though, she finished off her race well and I knew from two furlongs out I was going to get there. I had to put my stick down and ride hands and heels as she was a bit all over the place.”
“I would assume it's up to handicapper where she'll go now.”
