“Gary (Carroll) said he won the race in the first furlong,” Ger Lyons commented after Greek Canyon bounced out and made all to land the six furlong Fairyhouse Members Trip Handicap at Fairyhouse.
The 6/1 shot was well clear as he hit the furlong pole and stayed on stoutly for a length and three parts decision over Legal Lyric (12/1), who came home best down the outside.
It was another three lengths back to Toccata Blue in third at 8/1 (also trained by Ger Lyons). Via Ballycroy the 7/4 favourite, ran short of room a furlong and a half out, but wasn’t competitive today in coming in 10th of 11 runners.
Ger Lyons said: “He’s a good honest horse and six furlongs is his trip. He’s a top of the ground horse and races are few and far between for him. He shows plenty of pace from the stalls.”
