Big Gossey gained a second big handicap win over the Curragh's six-furlongs track today, landing the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF 'Bold Lad' Sprint at 33/1 for trainer Charles O'Brien and jockey Michael Hussey.
Successful under Hussey on Derby Day at the Kildare venue in June 2020, today the son of Gutaifan raced with the pace and eventually fought off the challenge of Arnhem to win by three parts of a length.
It was Big Gossey's fourth career win, bringing his earnings to €131,000 and afterwards Hussey reported “he travelled throughout and picked up well. I was in front a bit early but he toughed it out. He has plenty of speed and was just getting a bit lonely in front.
“He’s given a bit of trouble in the stalls in the past and reared up the last few times but today was perfect and did everything right.
“It’s great to have a big winner and Charles has done a good job.”
