Golden Conclusion for Layers at Cork
A trying day for punters at Cork concluded with 4/6 shot, The Book Thief getting turned over by first-timer, Golden Sunbird This four-year-old daughter of Bob Back scored by a length and three parts to credit rider David Boland with his fifth success in the plate, sporting the famous Banjo Syndicate silks, carried with such success by Accordion Etoile.
For Boland (23) this was a first win in the amateur ranks. He rode two for Mick Halford as a pro. He then went to England for two years and rode two winners for Ian Williams. He has been working now for Paul Nolan for a couple of months.
The Wexford handler said: "She had been working grand at home but had never been away." (EM)
