Gerri Colombe (6/5f) stretched his undefeated record to six at Fairyhouse today as Robcour-owned gelding completed a double for trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Jack Kennedy in the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee Beginners Chase.
By the same sire Saddler Maker as Elliott's opening race winner Harmonya Maker Gerri Colombe raced prominently throughout today's 2m5f race, jumping well and scoring readily from Bronn
A point-to-point winner on debut for Colin Bowe, Gerri Colombe had won two bumpers and two hurdles over the past two seasons and following his sixth success, Elliott said “that was a good performance and Jack said he’ll come on a bit from it — he had a good blow. We always thought he was a nice horse.”
He added “the ground was a bit quick one day and he came home a bit sore from Thurles. We were minding him and knew he was going to be a chaser.
“I doubt if he’ll come back here for the Drinmore in a couple of weeks time. He could go to Limerick at Christmas; you probably wouldn’t get it soft enough for him at Leopardstown. He doesn’t have to have it soft but he seems so effective on it.”
