Mouse Morris is leaning towards going straight to Cheltenham without another run with his inexperienced Boodles Gold Cup contender Gentlemansgame.
The eight-year-old grey gelding beat I Am Maximus on his chasing debut at the 2022 Leopardstown Christmas meeting and was having just his second run since when beating Bravemansgame in the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby in November.
A foot injury ruled him out of a clash with Galopin Des Champs in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown last month and he may also skip the Dublin Racing Festival at the same venue despite pleasing the Fethard trainer in recent workouts.
"He worked at the Curragh on Saturday and I was very happy. I was delighted and I have no worry, not with him anyway, about going straight to Cheltenham without a run since November,” said Morris.
"I won't make up my mind about running in the Irish Gold Cup until later this week, but he is unlikely to run as I don't like running between Christmas and March (for Cheltenham Festival horses).
“If he doesn't run, he will get a racecourse gallop around mid-February time."
Regarding the Robcour-owned gelding's ability range, he added "He is well up there with War Of Attrition."
