Gentleman proves tough
Gentleman Jim proved game to battle back and claim the Horse & Jockey Handicap Chase at Thurles.
Tom Doyle made most of the running on the Supreme Leader gelding but he looked a spent force as Rakamasi and Code Of The West moved through to dispute going to the final fence.
Code Of The West crashed out at the last, however, leaving Rakamasi in front. When that rival started to tie up in the closing stages Gentleman Jim stayed on dourly to land the spoils.
Rakamasi also lost second to Wicklow Lad while 5/2 favourite Drive On Jim could only manage fourth.
"I thought Drive On Jim was a handicap snip but this has always been a lucky place for me," said winning trainer Joe Fogarty.
"Maybe we had a bit of luck at the last fence today. Tom gave him a peach of a ride.
"I suppose the handicapper will give us a few more pounds after that but it's fantastic to win again."
