Fu’s Island (25/1) outpointed the odds-on favourite Canadian Steel (9/10) to take the O’Neill’s Bar Handicap Hurdle for Paddy Meaney and Jonathan Moore.
It was a fourth career win for the nine-year-old Turtle Island mare, and she was just a bit stronger close home than the keen-running market leader. Walking On Glass (7/1) flew home for third having encountered traffic problems. The winning margins were half a length and a neck.
The winning trainer Paddy Meany said: "That was a surprise. She only ran the other day in Kilbeggan and was very disappointing. Rachael had her on the inside there, inside a wall of horses and maybe she prefers to be on the outside like today.
"She was never around here before so she must like it here. The ground conditions were better today as well. She'll go for another handicap now and hopefully she is allowed to go in the same level (80 to 95)."
