Fridaynightlights landed a real touch when taking the Gleesons Butchers Novice Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse this afternoon.
The Beneficial gelding was having just his seventh run under rules and was backed at all rates on track from 25/1 into 10/1.
Andrew Ring produced the five-year-old to challenge at the last, and stayed on really well on the run-in to get the better of Beechmount Whisper in the closing stages for a length and a quarter victory. Bakers Street was three and three quarter lengths further back in third, with Muhaafiz completing the places in fourth.
Winning trainer Gordon Elliott said, “He’s a grand horse. I thought he’d run well but I thought if he was fourth or fifth it would have been a good run. He should be up to winning again hopefully.”
