The finale on Kilbeggan’s big day, the Racing Again July 16th Beginners Chase, went to Fred The Foot for John McConnell and Simon Torrens.
Soon chasing the leaders in third, the 4/1 scorer was pushed along after two out, before making good headway on the inner to lead before the last.
Ridden clear on the run-in Fred The Foot kept on well to beat Low Sun by two and a quarter lengths.
“Darragh’s lad (O’Keeffe’s Not Available the favourite, eventually 3rd) seemed to be lugging out a bit to his left and the way the rail is I was able to squeeze through on the inside,” said Torrens.
“John said to me earlier that he finds plenty for pressure. He jumped great and he’s done it well.”
The Stewards reviewed an incident on the bend before the last where it appeared Fred The Foot got tightened for room by Not Available. Having viewed the incident the Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
