Odds-on backers got their fingers burned in the beginners' chase as Vedettariat crashed out at the sixth last. Flaming Dawn duly got the job done for Edward O'Grady and Mark Walsh.
Flaming Dawn tracked Shantou Flyer and jumped closer to that rival seven out. At the sixth last he jumped on terms as Vedettariat (8/11f) took a fall when racing in fourth under Ruby Walsh.
From the fifth last it was Flaming Dawn's race and he took the remainder out of their comfort zone on the home turn. At this stage Shantou Flyer, Is Love Alive and Wood Pigeon were all off the bridle in their pursuit of him.
A good leap at the second last from Flaming Dawn made it difficult for Is Love Alive and Shantou Flyer and their task was rendered near impossible when the 9/2 shot sailed over the last several lengths to the good.
He put three and a quarter lengths on Shantou Flyer (3/1) in second. Is Love Alive at 14/1 was a further four and a half lengths away in third.
"He was lucky that the favourite fell and while he jumped much better today than before, it rode a slightly uncompetitive race," trainer Edward O'Grady said.
"I'll speak with his owner (JP McManus) and Frank (Berry, racing manager) before deciding on a plan."
Mark Walsh rode his second winner on the day on Flaming Dawn, having landed the opener with Killer Miller Both came in the JP McManus colours.
