Orewa (14/1), a son of one of the top first season sires in Helmet, won the big pot for the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes at the Curragh.
Chris Hayes was in the plate on the Brian Ellison-trained chestnut and in the aftermath he said: "Everything went to plan but I got there far too soon and he idled in front. He's a smashing horse." Medicine Jack (11/8 favourite) came through from the back for third place, but he was still two lengths and a nose down on Orewa and Wick Powell at the line.
Orewa was soon to the fore from his high draw in thirty, a tactic that took him all the way to victory.
