Disko looked a really smart prospect when running out an impressive winner on his debut in the concluding bumper at Punchestown this afternoon.
The Noel Meade-trained gelding pulled clear in great style in the closing stages to post a comprehensive 15-length success. Jett a half-brother to Jezki, was sent off 11/8 favourite after a promising runner-up effort on his debut at Leopardstown.
He cut out the running in the two-miler but had no answer when the Gigginstown-owned Disko hit the front turning for home.
Nina Carberry soon asked her mount to stretch clear and she could afford to ease down in the closing stages with victory assured. Chain Gang came through to take the runner-up spot with Jett fading into fourth. There was support for the winner from 3/1 this morning into 7/4 at the off.
Meade was full of praise for his charge afterwards:-
"I thought he was good. Sometimes they don't turn out to be as good as they look but there's no downside to this fella.
"He's clean winded, he's a good mover, he settles and doesn't pull. He's one to really look forward to.
"I'd say we'll do plenty of schooling with him in the spring. He'll probably go for a winners bumper, maybe the good four-year-old race in Limerick.
"He stays really well but he also quickens."
