Perennial slow starter Total Demolition cut down his rivals yet again at Fairyhouse this evening when scoring his seventh career success in the Toals.com Bookmakers Handicap.
The Ross Coakley partnered six year old gelding rarely leaves the stalls better than last and was again slowest away today and was held up in rear. He improved his position entering the home straight and in the end scored a length and three parts win over Scoil Naisiunta
Winning trainer John Larkin is an adoring fan despite, after winning at Killarney last month, describing how Total Demolition “would wreck your head” leaving the stalls.
Today he revealed “when he gets it right, he gets it right and Ross’s father kindly gave me a loan of a Monty Roberts starting stall blanket and he came out a little bit quicker.
“I suppose the ground and the trip were a factor too. Every time we went to run him last year the ground went very heavy.
“We have Galway in mind again and he has options there now over a mile or a mile and a half - I wish I had a few more like him.”
