The Gordon Elliott-trained Dee Capo recorded his fourth career victory when coming out on top in an exciting finish to the Ballymaloe Relish Rising Stars Beginners Chase at Leopardstown. Chapeau De Soleil made most of the running but was strongly pressed by both 8/11 favourite Quai De Bourbon and Dee Capo approaching the final fence.
Danny Gilligan ’s mount just proved the stronger in the closing stages beating Chapeau De Doleil by a neck with the odds-on favourite half-a-length back in third.
Elliott said, “He’s a nice horse and was running a good race the last day in Navan when he made the mistake and fell two out.
“He can go out in trip and he showed a good attitude galloping out to the line.”
Gilligan added: "After he got a fall the last day, we tried different tactics today. I was just trying to get his confidence back and it has worked. He jumped well, just got in tight to one or two, but when I really needed him at the last he was clever and battled hard to the line.
"It's been great to have been getting opportunities in some of the big races here this week and I'm delighted to have got one over the line."
