Waxies Dargle got a trademark Paul Carberry ride to land the opening 'winners of one' hurdle at Fairyhouse with ease.
The Noel Meade-trained gelding travelled supremely well to lead at the second last in the two-miler and things proved straight forward from there.
The 5/2 shot (5/1 this morning) cruised clear before the last and Carberry only had to give him the gentlest encouragement on the run-in to record a cosy two-and-a-half length success. Digeanta ran on to take the runner-up spot while his stable-mate Aklan who was sent off 5/6 favourite, proved a disappointment back in sixth.
“He was rated to win, and he was suited by the good gallop and soft ground. He jumps those (Easifix) hurdles better than the other ones,” said Meade.
“I had thought about running him in the Greatwood Hurdle but he’s rated 10lb higher in England than he is here.”
