Four year old Count To Five hit bookmakers for six when winning Sligo's curtain-raiser Tote Always SP Or Better (Fillies) Maiden today, on second start and seasonal return for trainer Andy Oliver.
Count To Five, by Bated Breath, raced prominently throughout under jockey Gary Carroll, led a furlong out and stayed on well to hold Lady Arwen by half a length.
Joint-favourite Life In Colour's 9.30am withdrawal meant Count To Five's early-morning backers, at 25/1, were rewarded at roughly 17/1 with late support continuing for the winner on-course, returning 5/1 (from 8s).
After the race Tyrone-based trainer Oliver said: “She had a good run at Cork and then had a bit of a setback so she was kept for this year. She hasn’t done an awful lot at home. We thought she had the ability to get through this type of race.
“Everything fell into place and Gary (Carroll) gave her a great ride. We’ll see what the handicapper does and plot a course from there.”
