Joseph O’Brien has used the barrier trials at Dundalk to great effect and Collins Street looks another promising sort from that route after taking the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden in fine style at Leopardstown.
The Camelot colt won his trial at Dundalk in June and went off a 9/2 chance here ‘on debut’ against 11 rivals.
Shane Crosse ’s mount made good headway between horses up the centre of the track early in the straight to lead a furlong out and soon asserted.
He kept on strongly to beat Breaker Of Chains by three and a half lengths, with evens favourite Handel finding no extra a further five and a half lengths away in third.
O’Brien’s assistant Brendan Powell said, “He’s a lovely horse and another barrier trial horse.
“Last year he was a bit of a boyo and backward but he’s done that nicely.
“Shane said they went a proper gallop and he knew turning off the bend that he would pick up. He’s galloped straight through the line and Shane said he could be exciting. You can’t do any more than win the way he has.
“He has a good attitude and will stay further as he’s very relaxed in a race.”
