The Cheltenham Bumper is a possible target for Clonbanan Lad who bolted up in the concluding Go Racing In Kildare Bumper at Naas today, winning well for trainer/jockey Mikey O’Connor.
The point to point and Limerick bumper winner stretched clear of his rivals in the straight and eventually recorded an easy 12 lengths win over 5/6 favourite Mozoltov who had no answer to the winner’s pace.
Afterwards O’Connor said “we’re praying for soft ground at Cheltenham – he’s a fair tool!
“It’s nice that it has worked out for his owner Edward Walsh as we both lost two lovely young horses in the last fortnight. In fact Clonbannan Las was actually bought as a replacement for another young horse who is out injured for a year - I’m delighted it has worked out.
“He keeps improving and he hasn’t stopped yet and he could end up anywhere.”
Stan James Bookmaker subsequently introduced Clonbannan Lad at 16/1 for the Cheltenham Bumper.
