The Niall Madden trained Highdownhill landed the Ingoldsby (Q.R.) Handicap Steeplechase at Punchestown today, scoring under jockey John Thomas McNamara.
Highdownhill, a rare chase winner for his stallion Montjeu, was held up by McNamara in the early stages and produced with his challenge from three out. The gelding moved to the front after the final fence before recording a length and three parts win over Dark Vagabond
Afterwards Frank Berry, racing manager to winning owner J.P. McManus, stated “John Thomas was at his best there and settled him in and took his time.
“He disappointed at Listowel – I don't know if it was the bad ground or not, there was no explanation. We'll find another one for him somewhere now.”
