Mark Cahill saddled his first winner under rules when Garron Crest justified good support in the mares bumper at Wexford.
Backed on track from 9/1 down to 5/1, the daughter of Kalanisi made virtually all under Pa King, and stayed on well under pressure in the straight. Emmy Lou (5/1) came home well inside the final two furlongs to finish a length and three quarters back in second, while Native Rye (12/1) was another two lengths adrift in third.
Cahill, who trains at South Lodge near Carrick-On-Suir, said “I’ve had a few winners in point-to-points but that’s my first on the track. We gave her a chance today and it was the plan to make the running. She’ll probably have a break now.”
Foxrock owner Frank McNulty, whose colours have been carried to success in recent weeks by Leah Claire, commented, “This has been a very lucky track for me, and that’s my fourth horse to win here.”
