Review CURRAGH 30th Sep

Tue 30th Sep 2008, 16:50

< Almass (5-1) showed her appreciation for having her sights lowered by landing first prize in the Keatley Curragh Equine Groundcare Race.

Kevin Prendergast's filly was well beaten in a Listed event won by Psalm last time and looked booked for second at best here, with Prince Shaun travelling much more sweetly entering the final furlong.

But that rival wandered under pressure, whereas Almass stayed on a true line to claim the spoils.

The money that came for Vitruvian Man ahead of the Keatley Curragh Equine Groundcare Maiden proved spot on, as John Oxx's charge cruised to a four and a half-length success.

Supported in to 8-11 on the back of his debut second at Cork, the Montjeu colt travelled smoothly for Mick Kinane and took closer order two furlongs out.< Agricola tried to get him on the stretch but once Vitruvian Man reeled him in, there was only going to be one result.< Flame Of Ireland put his first two runs firmly behind him by landing the Keatley Curragh Equine Groundcare Maiden.

Finishing fast under Fran Berry, the 33-1 chance had too much in the tank for Dancing Bandit who was three lengths in arrears at the line.< Toasted Special (25-1) was another to make recent disappointments seem a distant memory when outbattling Willoughby Bay in the Keatley Curragh Equine Groundcare Handicap.

The pair pulled clear down the centre of the track but Michael Hussey's mount just found a bit more, running on to score by three-quarters of a length.

Niall McCullagh drove home First In Command in the Keatley Curragh Equine Groundcare Handicap.

Never far off the leaders in the six-furlong test, the 16-1 chance shot into the lead with a furlong to run and held off Dedo by a length and a half.

Dermot Weld's Grace O'Malley (12-1) made it a successful debut when finishing best of all under Pat Smullen to land the Keatley Curragh Equine Groundcare Fillies Maiden by a head from Kiyra Wells
