Byrne excels on Anam Chara
Anam Chara owned and bred by Liscarroll, County Cork native Aileen Fennessy, justified the lengthy trek from Andy Oliver's County Tyrone base by making all under Daryl Byrne in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap at Cork.
The grey, carrying top-weight, went clear early in the straight but she was ultimately all out to hold off fellow-outsider Daffodil Walk by a neck.
Oliver said: "She deserved it as she is a filly that has been putting her best foot forward all year. She was beaten a short head and took plenty out of herself at Roscommon so we freshened her up and she had a good comeback run at Dundalk last time.
"We were hoping she'd run well although I was a bit scared of top-weight. That's probably her finished for the year and she has an engagement at Doncaster Sales.
"Daryl gave her a fantastic ride."
