Veteran trainer Austin Leahy and talented apprentice Dylan Browne McMonagle successfully teamed up for the second time in the space of six days as first reserve Ecoeye landed the Frenchpark Handicap at Roscommon.
The pair were on the mark with Principalship at Cork last Tuesday and maintained their one hundred per cent record together as the eight-year-old gelding made all on his belated seasonal debut.
The 15/2 chance stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to beat Agent Zero by three and a quarter lengths, with Lady Savanah a further three quarters of a length back in third.
Leahy said, “I was just a bit worried about his fitness as he hadn’t run for a good bit.
“He said that he had plenty of horse turning in and was confident at that stage.
“I was kind of waiting on the ground and this time of the year. I was aiming for Listowel so we will probably go there now. He’ll have a few pounds more now but you don’t mind when you are winning.
“The horses are in good form. I had five seconds in a month but we are getting a few winners now.
“He loves it in front. He was enjoying himself and the jockey is good value for his claim.”
