Brennan & Griffin land a Thurles double
By Arch, the sire of Group and Listed race performers Arch Swing and Arch Rebel, from the family of Noverre, Under The Arch wasn't bred with a Thurles bumper in mind but he displayed resolution in abundance to claim the Tobardora INH Flat Race to credit owner and trainer John Brennan and Eoin Griffin with a double.
Mikey Fogarty 's mount, second here to Dynamic Approach on his debut before running in the champion four-year-old event at Limerick was allowed go off at 7/1 on his return from a 207 day break and he just got the better of an exciting tussle with Ahyaknowyerself by a neck.
Bought by Sean Tiernan of Peak Bloodstock for 60,000 dollars at Keeneland as a yearling in 2007, Under The Arch has always been well thought of by Griffin.
The Kilkenny trainer, earlier successful with the Wexford-owned Glencove Marina in the day's feature, said: "That's not a bad day's work. His wind caught him out in the closing stages here on his debut and we put a tongue-strap on him the next day.
"He was hobdayed since and his wind didn't come against him today. He wants soft ground but I was concerned about all the rain we'd got. I've always thought a lot of him and he is a nice horse for the future. We have no plans."
