Belleau floors Black Belt
There was an unusual outcome to the Blackstairs Claiming Race at Wexford this evening with the Paul Deegan trained Belleau bought from another Claimer 10 days ago, edging out former stablemate Black Belt by a head.
Belleau, under good apprentice rider Sam James, was claimed at Dundalk from Tracey Collins’ yard before running for Deegan at Killarney the following day, and edged out Black Belt in tight finish.
Deegan, who was registering a double, was not present but Tralee based winning owner Michael O’Callaghan did mention “Belleau is a filly with a good pedigree and that’s why I claimed her. I claimed her for €6,000 and she will now either be sold in the near future or else go to Galway.”
Runner-up Black Belt was subsequently claimed for €8,000 by Mrs Cathy Harrison.
