The concluding Follow Dundalk On Facebook Handicap (div 2) at Dundalk this evening went off at a delayed 9.56pm but for jockey Shay Barry it was worth the wait as he partnered his first winner on the all-weather track, on Days Ahead
Veteran jump jockey Barry has seen plenty in his riding years but can now boast a riding 10pm winner, having kept the 13/8 favourite up to his work in the closing stages for a half length win over Noverre Princess
Winning trainer Eoin Doyle was not immediately available for comment but Barry did say “Days Ahead is a horse who doesn't like to be in front too soon. He responded well under pressure though and it worked out well!”
This evening's meeting began with a 44 minute delay (see earlier story) and officials and jockeys worked well to 'catch up' eight minutes over the evening/night.
Final word on the extended eight race card goes to Attheraces 'viewer' Deirdre Byrne who rogueishly tweeted television hosts Luke Harvey and Jason Weaver, both familiar with witty banter, saying “When the hell is this programme finishing? Are you two going to be on all night? My husband still won't let me change the channel!”
