Barneys Honour ended a frustrating run of placed efforts for trainer Philip Rothwell when taking the concluding handicap chase at Fairyhouse.

Declan Bates sent his mount to the front after the fourth last. He stayed on well on the run-in to hold the challenge of Old Shyan by a length-and-a-quarter.

"I've had three weeks of seconds and thirds!" said Rothwell afterwards.

"I said to the lads that this horse would win if he jumps well. He has improved so much at home but his jumping was sketchy. Declan gets on really well with him."
