Beauchamp Bagenal pulled out all the stops to gain a narrow victory in the opening seven-furlong handicap at Gowran this afternoon.
Luke McAteer sent his mount for home turning into the straight but he was joined passing the furlong pole by Trueba
There was nothing between the pair in the closing stages but Barry Fitzgerald's charge stuck his neck out near the line to gain a head success.
The 12/1 winner had sprung a shock in a Dundalk maiden back in January before subsequently finishing mid-division on his handicap debut on the all-weather.
It was a first winner of the season for both jockey and trainer.
