Trainer Michael Halford and stable jockey Ronan Whelan combined for an opening races double at Dundalk today as Arcanears himself gained a second career win in the BetVictor Bet 5 Get 30 Offer Handicap.
The son of Arcano had previously gained a maiden win on his second career start on soft ground at the Curragh in May 2018 and today ended a frustrating 14 race losing spell when beating Enough Said by half a length.
Afterwards Halford reported “he's very game. He's had a couple of very good runs this year without having much luck.
“He always seemed to get a bad draw. He got galloped on top of one day in the Curragh and got the hind legs cut off him, we lost a good bit of time with him.
“We just ran out of time on the grass and the last day in Naas he came home well. I knew he had handled the surface here before.
“I'm delighted for Carol (Roper), she's been a great owner for us over all the years. She's so patient and the horses mean so much to her so I'm thrilled for her as she bred him as well.
“We'll keep going with him. It suited him tonight as they went very fast, took him off his feet early but he came home well.”
