Anna and Bon now 5 out of 5
Askanna retained her unbeaten record in the ITBA S/E Region Supporting Irish Racing Industry Hurdle under her regular rider, Barry 'Bon' O'Neill at Gowran.
The 4/1 chance idled a bit between the last two but she pulled out enough on the run-in to beat Tilabay by half a length. The daughter of Old Vic has now won two 'points,' a bumper and two hurdles.
O'Neill said: "She always idles like that but she keeps pulling it out and pulling it out."
Meanwhile winning trainer Colin Bowe commented: "She is tough and that was the plan. She is a well-bred mare with Racing Demon, Merry Gale and Brave Inca in her pedigree."
Winning owner John Asple also bred the mare and he is from Galbally in County Wexford. That parish is of course a former stronghold of Model County Gaelic football.
