Anam claims Curragh opener for Weld
Anam Allta battled gamely to get up in the closing stages and land the opening Mad About You EBF Maiden at the Curragh.
Dermot Weld 's charge, who had made a pleasing debut when a staying on fifth at Naas earlier in the month stepped up on that to get off the mark.
Pat Smullen found a willing partner in the final furlong as she stayed on strongly to record a half-length success over Independent Girl
In a tight finish the same distances seperated the first five home.
"She did it well from a bad draw. She had to tack over gradually and Pat gave her an excellent ride," said Weld.
"We'll probably look to give her one more race this year - a Listed race later in the season.
"She will appreciate a bit further as she was only getting going at the end."
