Ana gets off the mark at Wexford
Anaverna s form entitled her to go off the 9/10 favourite for the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden and she justified her market position, but only just, under Pat Smullen.
Owned and bred by the matriarch of the Weld family, Gita, this daughter of Galileo (his second winner of the evening, following on from Miss Coco in the first) made all and she hung on by a neck from Snap Alam who had challenged from a furlong and a half out.
Kris Weld commented afterwards: "She did it well in the end, battling hard. She'll go for a handicap next and hopefully we'll get some black-type into her before the end of the season."
