Declan McDonogh swooped late on All About Alfie to collar Sheilas Wish in the mile and a half handicap at Cork.
The pair came down the outside of the track to land a bit of a touch from an opening show of 11/2 at the course down to 4/1. He won going away by two and a half lengths with the runner-up returned at 8/1. Hangar Five at 7/2 took third.
Thomas Foley trains the winner and he said: “It’s nice to get a winner at any grade [on the flat]. You can’t beat a jockey with experience.”
When asked if his charge could go hurdling Foley replied: “We’ll have to wait and see. He might have to mature a bit. Two miles might be a problem.
“He’s in a race at Tipperary next Friday over a mile and a half and he might go there.”
11/4 favourite Akram disappointed and trailed in last of the 11 runners. He was eased when beaten.
