- Acushladear gives McDonogh quick double
Acushladear gives McDonogh quick double
She may have doubled in price from a morning offer of 5/1 but that market drift did little to stop the gallop of Acushladear as the Tagula mare completed a quick double for her rider Declan McDonogh in the www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap.
In the previous race McDonogh teamed up with English-based trainer Kevin Ryan on Blue Moon but here he was riding for the small County Kilkenny operation of Pat Tallis.
Freshford handler Tallis does well with his few runners and Acushladear, a winner at Tipperary in the summer, stayed going well to beat Homebrew by three parts of a length. The pair left Coppers three and three parts of a length back in third.
Tallis said: "We knew she was in great form but we had two concerns coming here.
"Firstly she hadn't run on the surface before and we weren't sure how she'd cope.
"As well as that we didn't know whether she'd get the trip. She had been finishing her previous races off well though.
"We were hopeful without being confident. She done it easy enough and she got a grand ride from Declan. He was delighted with her.
"It is great for us as we only have a couple in training. We're thrilled."
A gamble on the Reggie Roberts-trained Happy Moments (at least 14/1 this morning into 5/1) went astray as he could find no extra in the final quarter mile.
